Fostering a Rescued Lab
Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida Inc. (LRROF) needs foster homes for our rescued Labs.
The number of available foster homes limits the number of dogs that we can rescue. Labs may have to be
placed on a waiting list until a foster home is available. Unfortunately, some dogs have a limited amount of
time before a shelter or animal control will have to put them down. Clearly, foster homes play one of the most
significant roles in LRROF's rescue efforts.
How to become a foster home: Complete a Foster Home Application
Upon acceptance of the Volunteer Form, an LRROF volunteer will contact you to arrange a home visit.
You will then be notified if you are approved for fostering.
Please do not offer to foster for us if you just want to use it as a way of choosing a dog to adopt.
Fostering is very rewarding, but it is also requires hard work and dedication.
We do not view our foster homes as potential adopters.
If you want to adopt a Lab, please fill out the adoption application instead of the fostering application.
What we need most in a foster home is someone who is truly dedicated to helping us save the
lives of homeless Labrador Retrievers.
Quarantine Foster Homes
Some Labs from shelters have been exposed to "kennel cough" (This is no fault of the shelter,
just a by-product of overcrowding). Kennel cough is not contagious to humans, but even pets
that have been given Bordatella inoculation are vulnerable. We're looking for people who don't
have animals, and who can foster these dogs for a minimum of 2 weeks (the incubation period
for kennel cough).
How to become a foster home: Complete a Foster Home Application
Fosters home needed in: Tampa Bay area, Orlando, all of South Florida.
Transportation
We have a need for volunteers who are available to transport Labs to foster homes, adoption days
and vet visits.
Adoption Counselor
The Volunteer interviews prospective adopting families and work to ensure a successful match.
Home Visits
Before a potential adopter obtains a Lab from LRRoF, they may be visited by a Volunteer
to assess the suitability of a Lab to the household. We request that a Lab accompany you
on the home visit.
Meet & Greets/Pet Fairs
These volunteers attend pet fairs at Petco, Petsmart and many other types of events in order
to answer questions about our organization, pass out information, and BEST of all, show
off our product. Volunteers attending these events will be invited to bring along their current
foster Lab. For a list of upcoming events click here
Fundraising
Fund-raising duties consist of originating and implementing activities to raise money
for the homeless Labs in LRRoF's care.
