The best way to convince you of our success is by hearing stories of those successful matches first hand from the families themselves. We hope you enjoy reading them for as proud as we are to show them to you!

Senior Labs

Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida adopts out dogs of all ages -- from puppy to seniors. Seniors are the dogs that get adopted less frequently because people are afraid of their age, loss or the requirements a senior dog might require as it ages. We want you to know that senior dogs need love too, and here are some of the reasons:

Top Reasons to Adopt a Senior Labrador Retriever
  1. Adulthood: Most of our senior labs are well past the chewing and digging stages of their life and cause less destruction than puppies or younger dogs.  Their attention span is longer making them easier to train.
  2. Peace of Mind: Majority of our senior labs are house trained and can hold their bladder for longer periods of time.
  3. Experience: Many of our senior labs have been well socialized with other animals and provide a good example to younger dogs.
  4. Instant Companions: Senior labs do not demand constant attention.  They are content to be in the same room with you and are happy to go on a simple walk as exercise.
  5. Diginity: Senior labs are typically calmer than a younger lab and are gentle around the elderly and children.
  6. What you See is What you Get: A senior lab is fully grown with no guesswork as to how big they will get, what their energy level will be or other habits.
  7. Memories: A senior lab that is part of your life for several years will you bring you lots of love and companionship for the days you share together!

Lab Rescue offers special programs, such as discounted adoption rates for seniors and our Seniors for Seniors program which allows senior citizens (over the age of 60) to adopt a senior dog for a further discount. When visiting our adoptions page, be sure to keep in mind that all dogs, regardless of age, make great companions, especially those with experience.

Cooper

Our Success Story

Cooper was found on the streets with a broken leg. This is when Lab Rescue entered his life. They fixed his leg and =ave him a second chance. The surgeon said the break was at least three weeks old. Try to imagine a 10mo old Lab living on the streets with that kind of injury. We couldn’t. It was heartbreaking to think about.

Our Success Story

We introduced Junior to his forever home in in June of 2004. Junior had been treated for heartworms and weighed 36 lbs. Just last spring he had been to the vet for his annuals and he was doing well...a bit of arthritis in his hips but the vet said his heart was sound despite the damage done when he was young.
