When 38 pound Declan, a 1-2 year old chocolate Lab, was pulled from his backyard, it appeared that he was on his way to the Rainbow Bridge.  His sister was barely hanging on, and mom lasted just a few days before she crossed over.  The shelter immediately began searching for foster care, but the weak siblings contracted a severe strain of kennel cough, which made their struggle just that much more difficult.
While Declan was under anesthesia, a thorough exam revealed that at some point in his young life, Declan also battled distemper.  The enamel on his teeth is malformed and he sees only large shadows, a consequence of neurological damage due to the distemper.
Despite all of this, Declan has maintained a sunny, upbeat personality.  As you can see by his second picture, he's gained back all of his weight and he is a love bug.  He is looking for a special home, for someone who doesn't need a perfect dog, but can appreciate a loving soul. He is still learning how to play and the trainer says that he is highly trainable.  Please don't forget about this special boy when considering dogs for adoption.

I'm 6 years of age with a positive outlook on life. My beautiful black coat was all gone, but I'm growing a brand new one. (I don't leave dog hair around the house :-) )After having litters of adorable lab pups, I was abandoned. The folks who were selling my pups left me outdoors and moved out of their place. Lucky for me, there were neighbors who called Animal Control so that I could get access to shelter, food and water. Then I had a new problem: the shelter was full and I was slated to be euthanized. I was so scared until a nice volunteer from LRRoF came to take me to my foster home where I'm now safe and comfortable, waiting for your visit. I love to snuggle and please people. I get along very well with other dogs.  I have wonderful house manners and that I'm a joy to be with. I love to cuddle, take walks, explore the yard, and play with dog toys. My crate is my castle.
